There’s a bit of Airbnb-centric content this newsletter, because I’ve been in Sydney giving book/writing talks at a Toastmasters conference.
No dishwashing liquid kills me – we ended up washing the dishes with laundry liquid WHICH WE ALSO HAD TO BUY a couple of times. (Not my idea but I think it’s okay?)
Headless, because you never really see your own head (except in the mirror, photos, etc).
Interesting Things
Birds Aren’t Real – A made-up conspiracy theory movement, to parody actual conspiracy theory movements in which they (pretend to) think birds aren’t real, rather are drones developed by the government to spy on people. So damn clever.
I LOVED Helen Lewis’s ‘Helen’s Big Rules of Writing’ (in The Bluestocking substack via Sophie Hansen) – Good all round but especially the ‘Notice What you Notice’ bit.
I quoted the same advice in Sydney, but had a slightly different take. I think of it as Notice What You Notice Because Other People Notice It Too But They Don’t Notice That They Notice. There’s something incredibly connective about having someone point out a thing you’re aware of but didn’t realise you were aware of.
I love an ‘Am I The Arsehole?’ story, esp when it’s clear that yes, the teller is in fact the arsehole.
Happy noticing,
